When designing our kitchen cabinets, the manufacturer wanted to provide a very deep end cabinet for brooms and cleaning supplies. instead i asked for a less deep cabinet facing the kitchen and used the back area for a very narrow cabinet facing the shorter wall to store pizza peels. It has worked out great! The other change we made is that we put our kitchen island on wheels so that we can use it in many locations for larger parties (serving bar, table extension, etc). we didnt need electricity to it because we have lots of counter space. it gives us a lot of flexibility.
We're lucky enough to have a full pantry and I would highly recommend using pull-out trouser hangers in a lower area to store table linens. You can cover them with dry cleaning bags, on their rods, and they stay clean and smooth.
Most of these ideas are really good. However two design ideas that have always been an issue with me are the trash drawers and the paper towel drawer. My hands are usually wet, and or dirty when I am reaching for a paper towel, and the same for trash. I can’t stand the idea of touching handles constantly with dirty hands and constantly needing to sanitize. I prefer hands free trash receptacles, and paper towel holders easily accessible.
