Judi, yes he will continue gardening ‘till he drops I’m sure, plus garden writing, occasional TV features etc, travelogues etc., but without the pressures and intrusion of weekly filming. I would imagine the latter will be a huge relief, to finally get your own garden back.

Thank you, but beauty has been disappointingly fleeting here of late, the good years have become fewer and farther between. Gardening (especially the watering) in increasingly severe heat has become a burden with dwindling returns, so its definitely time for a new approach, with far fewer roses and perennials and more tough, heat resistant shrubs. I will be sacrificing some favourite roses, which will be tough, plus getting rid of a load of newish ones that haven’t even had time to prove themselves yet. I keep telling myself I must dispense with my usual dithering and become ruthless!

There will be good and bad years Nollie.. I am hoping a better one next year..

For me it was the perennials that struggled the most. I had to regularly water only the new roses which were experimented in pots, while the ones in ground were largely okay with occassional watering.. Could be the mulching or the deep roots..

All I am saying is, keep going.. keep sharing.. I might not be a regular poster.. but definitely like sharing with the good folks here whenever I get time..

Carol, the rain was predicted to start around 11 pm and it has, though Jim would call it Idaho drizzle. As I've said, we measure rain in hundredths of an inch......Hardy hibiscus likes full sun to part sun from what I've read, but the same "authority" said it lives five years. What??? All my hibiscus are around 18 years old. Don't believe the experts about anything is my motto, whether it's roses and their size, or how long something lives. On to more fun topics. I see we are treated to more beautiful blooms. Wish I had some. Your first four photos are gorgeous, and maybe Anni and Perfume Factory have that lovely extra pretty look. The first photo of Perfume Factory looks like a queen surrounded by her ladies in waiting. Great photo. And Sweet Madame Blue is really an outstanding bloomer. The big bunches of blooms remind me of Wild Blue Yonder's way of blooming. SMB is stunning. Well, I'm going to check on the rain or drizzle. Sorry Heirloom only carries an Eisvogel hydrangea, which I thought was ironic. I can't win. Diane
