SdO

another rarely mentioned Austin that deserves more love than it gets is Darcy Bussel. This year she bloomed miuch more than Munstead with very similar blooms. She is the first and last to bloom and is always in bloom.

A couple photos from today, it's nice to see a little color!

I bought a 'Julie Andrews' standard at Home Depot this spring and planted it in my neighbour's garden for her. She loves hybrid teas. We have both been so impressed with the beauty of this rose!
Her garden is west facing and extremely hot and dry (although in the PNW, so still relatively temperate). So far, 'Julie Andrews' has been very healthy and floriferous. We planted it with horse manure and starter feltilzer. The rose is on drip irrigation. It has also been fertilized with Maxsea twice. We do not spray for fungal issues or insects.
I love the way the color of the blooms fade a bit as they age...it makes a beautiful overall display. The flowers relatively long lasting considering what a hot spot they are in.

Hmmm… I guess I’m the outlier because I quite like mine. It is a bit stingy about repeating, but it has good blackspot resistance even in part shade (I think the part shade is at least somewhat to blame for the stingy rebloom). In short, it is a tall rose thst is excellent in the back of my border, but I probably wouldn’t give it a prime spot.
