Floating rocks and water bubbles

Size: 1200m2

Terraced garden is located in a cul-de-sac at the end of a small town and set within an old pine forest that was incorporated in the design. With the layout and large size of the architecture and high terrain differences on the site, there was a great need for a counterweight in the landscape. The garden has three main areas, the roof parking area and entrance area; open grass area and the main dining and lounge terrace with the water feature as focus point. The main design element – water feature - was created to connect different levels of the site in a coherent garden. This water feature was created with concrete volumes - various cubes that where designed as a modern mountain abstraction. The artificial ‘streams’ fall from linear cuts in the concrete blocks into the water mirror that reflects the sky and surrounding treetops. Sculptural elements of the cubes, seats and stone walls open the garden edges out to the canopy of pine trees. The various blocks of the fountain are intended for seating, sunbathing and walking in the cool water which, together with the rough textures of the blocks, massages your feet. Selected vegetation follows indigenous species of ferns, blueberries and evergreen shrubs beneath the pine and beech trees.
