What colors should I paint my honey oak staircase?

I am looking to update the staircase in my home. Right now there is too much honey oak and I was hoping to paint it to give it a more modern feel. Any advice on colors and which parts to paint? Our walls are SW Maison Blanche and the trim is SW extra white.
