Can you tell me if the wood product is a composite and if not, what kind of wood is it? How do you maintain the colour and finish?

    Hello Janice

The soffit is built with clear cedar T&G boards that are coated with Sikkens semi-transparent stain. With respect to maintenance, we find that natural wood, when used on soffits or other protected areas, does not require a lot of maintenace as it is not directly exposed to sun or moisture.

For example, 5 years ago we used the same soffit detail on a home, and simultaneously used clear cedar decking with the same stain. The soffits still look as good as the day they were installed, but the deck stain, which is exposed to full sun and rain, requires refinishing every 1-2 years.

    Thanks for your question.

Interesting thoughts. Nice to add a natural warm element on an exterior surface that will keep it's original beauty over time.

Who was your supplier for the windows? They look fabulous!

The windows are metal clad wood, made by Lux Windows in Calgary. We trimmed the black paneled areas out with smooth Hardie Panel painted in black gloss to match the windows.

    Thanks for the question.
