What matters is what *you* think of the moose! If you love it, I'd be tempted to put it over the fireplace and then use its color pallette to determine accent colors for the rest of the room (including for this wall -- could be a light purple, say, or bright yellow-gold), putting the TV on one of the two stands to either side (thus at a better viewing height). If you like it but also love the TV where it is, then I'd still draw a color from the picture -- now it could be the light aqua (or better yet, a light version of the teal from your chairs), in addition to just about any other color from that painting. If you're just so-so on the painting and more wedded to your black-white-grey scheme, then I'd make this wall a shade of gray that ties in with your couch without reproducing its color, and then just use the moose to inspire a couple of throw pillows or whatever. Another option would be to go two-tone; say a gray around the outside and a mauve in the depressed portion....

Those are some ways to think about things, anyway. :))

Art is completely subjective so you are the only one who can decide if the moose painting should be kept and what type of paintings you should decorate with.

Re the wall colour, you can try a light grey to match the fireplace marbling. Or a warm shade since the rest of your house seems to be a yellowish colour.

I would not paint the fireplace the accent color...just the recessed wall, the color of your chair which looks as if it is the same as one of the colors in the moose painting...fun! Hey, neither is a life long commitment.

The mantle is traditional but cabinets pretty sleek and modern. If your accents are black and white maybe try to move FP away from traditional to modern by painting it black. I may be completely off suggesting this! Great moose! Or just switch out mantle altogether. Keep old mantle in case next buyer wants to put it back...?

You've got a great foundation to work with! I would paint the recessed wall a grey tone. You could pull a medium tone grey from the marble around your fireplace. This keep the overall "fixed items" in a neutral palette and allows for you to change up your art or accent colors. Happy painting! P.S. I like the moose!

The moose, the chair and the fireplace are my favorite parts of the room. I would totally play those up. But given what else you have done in the room, that may not be your style. Whatever you do needs to make YOU smile.

First, the moose is great. I think the trim around your fireplace may be a bit too traditional for your room. Switch out the pilasters for something with a flat profile. Try the teal in your chair for the accent colour. Love your space.

Moose over FP with one of his colors as background accent wall inside the recess. TV on a swivel base atop the right side cabinet. Teal chair angled away from the wall with the two slim pix above it and a floor lamp beside it.

    I love the moose!
I actually have a similar colour scheme and am also looking into an accent wall. If specifics help: Two colours that I'm looking at are benjamin moore dark teal or Kendall charcoal. If you like the look of either They would be a place to start - you can bring the swatches home and see how they are with your furniture/art then adjust your choices darker/lighter/bluer/greener (or completely different, lol) from there.

Looking at them on my screen now, the Kendall charcoal may be too brownie for you space, but you get the idea- something similar to the grey in you marble as suggested earlier. I personally like the idea of a bold accent wall, so I'd go darker rather than lighter, but I'm definitely not a pro!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I agree with a lot of your comments. The fireplace mantle is what our builder installed. I would love to change it, or more specifically have my hubby diy something to change it. I was thinking of doing the colour called Avalon by Benjamin Moore. The TV needs to stay above the fireplace as all the cords go through the wall there.

I'd paint the recessed wall a medium gray color. Leave the moose painting. It's cool!

Great space! I would try something I would try something in the navy blue hues, you seem to have great natural light coming through that space.

Based on your pictures, I can tell you are fond of brighter, more vivid colors! I'd just suggest a dark blue, sort of navy! Maybe a more dark, yet bright color to give it a cozy, while staying interesting!

Can you stand in front of the fireplace and take a picture of the rest of the space? Here are some examples but I can't really recommend one over the other without seeing the rest of the room (or at least a pic of the sofa and drapes).

Hi there, in regards to the moose painting, it depends on the atmosphere you are trying to create? If it's a fun, layed back space then the moose will work and like previous comments, use the colours in the painting to tie things together. If you are trying to create a more subdued space then move the painting to another space. The wall colour that I think would work nicely is BM Revere Pewter. It's a soft, warm grey with a hint of beige, looks fantastic with black, white and grey, and looks beautiful with trim painted BM Simply White. Just painted my space with theses exact colours after much testing.

After looking at the above pics with the different coloured walls, I think the darker the better cuz it camouflages the TV. The TV really stands out against the lighter walls. Have you ever thought of framing in the TV. It would be a DIY. I'm also planning on putting my TV over the mantel.

You have a fun design aesthetic and the moose definitely stays! I would paint the wall a warm golden tone from the moose painting and then accent those wall units with some colored glass items (placed on the far side of the wall unit away from the wall with the moose painting) in the colors of the moose i.e. orange, teal, yellow etc. to bring a modern touch of color to that side of the room. It looks like the TV has to stay on the mantel but I would hang it if possible. Bring in all t hose colors with a rainbow of solid throw pillows on the couch and chair and you will have a beautiful and fun living area that will reflect your personality. Have fun!

You may want to consider painting the wall BLACK USING BENJAMIN MOORE-SATIN OR PEARL IMPERVO 100% acrylic paint. As someone indicated earlier, you may want to leave the fireplace white or repaint using white depending on the condition. Lastly, you may want to install either shelving or cabinetry en-suite to each side of fireplace to take advantage of additional storage or display. Regarding artwork: It is a personal choice and only you can decide if it is appropriate for the space overall or to find another location in the house where the work might be better suited. GOOD LUCK!

I agree the TV looks better with a deeper color behind it. Prevents it from bouncing off too much. I notice it's an inset wall there!

For the rest of that same wall, the outset portion, I'd choose no more than 2 shades lighter from the SAME color strip.

Carry that lighter color to the moose painting wall.

It should look fantastic! The color shades will be perfectly related, while the TV and moose have their appropriate background depths.

How about a dark GRAY? Gray goes beautifully with black and white, and won't distract from your TV. A bright or strong color will interfere with visual enjoyment. What I'd love to see is a two tone effect: a darker color on the inset portion of the wall, and a slightly lighter shade on the 'frame'. It would enhance the architectural interest of the wall.

Go with eggplant on the recessed portion. KEEP the moose! Add a grouping of black & white photos framed in black narrow frames on the left side of the TV with two offset suspended shelves on the right side with a collection of hand blown art glass pieces. Have LED small spots mounted to the upper portion (put on dimmers) to display both the black & white photos & the art glass. One on each side. Great sense of style.

Put up a reclaimed antique barn wood wall behind that TV. Either Grey/Brown barn wood or mixed grey/brown with some white washed barn wood. It would look fabulous!!

Love the moose and maybe match the accent wall colour with your accent chair.
