Need help to update bathroom
I have this bathroom which has expensive marble but has become very dated over the years. The marble top has crack line and sinks have hairline cracks on it. I would like give it a more modern/clean twist and brighten up the whole bathroom. I am very reluctant to hack out all the expensive marble (it is such a waste and expensive to do). However, I am prepared to change the cabinet, taps, shower head, accessories. Need help on what I can do and style of accessories I can use so that the new will blend with the old. I contemplated hacking out the marble counter-top but am concerned the marble on the side will crack. Any suggestions on the the accessories, color of the door, mirror frame, or any treatment to the counter top would be create.

9 years agoYou could go with high contrast and go with black doors and black mirror trim and towels, and chrome handles and accessories.

Comments (6)Marble are non-porous thus it would cause etching and corrosion. Besides that, marble are high maintenance materials. Marble requires proper care and maintenance. Acid should never be used on marble as it shall loose its shine. Marble should be regularly polished over a period of time to give it a new look. If proper precautions are not taken the marble becomes yellowish in colour. Italian marble is usually very soft and prone to cracks. Proper resins have to be used to make the surface strong and solid and avoid further cracks. Proper sealants should be used in marble flooring as the marble is highly porous and prone to staining. It absorbs stains very quickly especially kitchen stains hence are not appropriate for kitchen counter tops. Quartz would be a better choice as quartz are non porous.
