We used a type of glass called Switchlite, also called "switch glass" generically, that consists of two
panes of glass with a liquid crystal film in between that has a conductive
coating. When there’s no current going through the glass it looks translucent
and diffused, but when you turn the power on the crystals in the film align and
the glass appears transparent. It's controlled by a light switch.
