How do you keep mulch from washing away with rainfall?

    Lots of plants. If there's lots of open mulch, it will eventually move, even with ridges and edges of hardscaping. But if there are more plants interspersed with a little bit of mulch, it will stay put, generally speaking!

    This is in San Diego, we only get on average 9" of rain per year. Gardner's need to be careful and rake it back up after they work on it .

    adequate planting does help hold it in place.

    The mulch usually breaks down into soil and needs to be replenished after a couple of years.
