Outside corridor plants, yes or no?

I heard that you're not supposed to put anything outside your HDB flat, but I noticed that my neighbours have potted plants, shoe rack, umbrella container...someone even has a clothes dryer. I'd like to put some small plants along our wall that's lined with windows, is that allowed?

According to the Fire Safety Guidelines for HDB estates, you are permitted removable and non-combustible items as long as there is a minimum clear escape passage of 1.2m clearance (for ambulance crew and the wheelchair-bound). As long as you stay within that guidelines, having small plants along your wall shouldn't be a problem ;)
