Best plants for balcony

following up with my earlier question, i am still looking for good plants for my balcony. anyone has recommendations or advice on what works best? i hope to do minimal watering, perhaps 2-3 times a week max?

Do you have any or like succulents? They need even less watering than that!

Hi there! if you're looking for plants that can withstand minimal watering, you can go for succulents (as mentioned by Rachel ;)), pothos (aka money plant), chinese evergreen, cast-iron plants, zz plant or even snake plant. Air plants are also known to be able to thrive with little watering ;)

You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example).

Hi Tammy, these planter boxes are pretty common these days and we've covered lots of them for homeowners staying in places like The Minton and The Palette. Our proposed solution is to build a stainless steel structure with industrial-grade walkway grating to span the depression in the balcony. This solution ensures a lifespan of 10 years and beyond. Then, we give homeowners the option of covering the area with artificial grass or wooden decking. I'm not sure about your balcony, but most balconies do get rainwater falling on it. This solution is ideal as it doesn't rot like a wood base does over time. I've attached a picture from one of our customers showing how we covered her planter box. Hope this helps. Money plants are super easy to maintain! I've had mine for the past 7 months since moving in to our new flat and it is growing wildly around its 1.5m pole with minimal care. Cacti don't need much attention as well and make for nice decorative plants especially in toilets where you might not get much sunlight. The air plant in your second picture was actually being sold at my neighbourhood pasar malam and I was very close to getting it (apparently it only needs occasional spraying of water) but it wasn't quite my style and I went for a different plant that I'm still trying to figure out the name of. :)

Your beautiful balcony that you own has a planter box (trench). You could either plant in there and give yourself some privacy from prying eyes or you could install decking to the area and have more space for your furniture layout. Another option is to create a bench but do be aware if you have children or are planning for the future.
