Design Dilemma Living Room

Need help designing my corridor

Hi, I just bought a HDB flat with a 6m long recess area (corridor) before it leads to my living room. Any ideas how I can spruce up my corridor to give it a unique feel? Thanks!

Hi razis_wwf13, probably you can consider to have an open concept kitchen which collaborate both kitchen space and corridor space so that the corridor space wouldn't be isolated and feel narrow, at the same time, it make the kitchen space look bigger!

Hi razis_wwf13, here are two articles on Houzz to get you started with. Although they are international, some ideas are applicable to the HDB context. My favourite is to use the corridor as an artwork gallery with some proper lighting :)

So you just want to enclose the top area to make it a place to sleep? Does it need to have a kitchen and bathroom or just a sleeping area? I am not an architect but you might want to ask more direct questions like " How can I enclose this upper floor to make it livable?". It looks like you live in a very mild climate. Perhaps you should put up wood walls with windows that match the design on the balcony panels. I am not a builder so I hope someone else has some ideas for you.

Your drawing does not show enough information to render much advice. I assume the few dimensions you show are in centimeters ? If you are looking for advice from US designers we are work in inches. The best advice I can offer is to hire a certified kitchen designer. Believe me it will be well worth the money when you consider the dollars spent on a kitchen remodel. You can find designers in your area thru NKBA.org.

Hello there :) Nice design by the way. Perhaps you can: 1. Change the door panels only. Keep the existing shape & the cupboards, the carpenter can 'update' the doors with different handles too (like image above). 2. Spray paint is more $$$ but I think it is longer lasting. 3. Laminated is less $$ but as we all know it chips & eventually the laminate comes out (wear & tear). 4. Unless you want the inside of the cabinet to be changed from existing white to a different colour, then the carpenter have to dismantle everything & redo. So more $$$$ Hope this helps & Happy shopping!

Hi yoyo188, that's a very detailed plan! Looks fine with me, except I have a concern regarding the dining area. (The following done with Houzz Sketch function!) Just wondering if some of the guests at the dining table might potentially be facing the shoe rack? I agree with Eliot. Corridor with pictutes or paintings line up artistically is the way to go. It adds interest to the eyes and mind. The beginning of one's journey into your beautiful home.

A 6m long corridor is unique. You can play with the ceiling to create an optical illusion by breaking up the corridor's straight, parallel

HI Riazis,

I am sure you have had a million ideas and probably have done up your place.

We did this for a client who had a long corridor as well. This was a 2 bedroom apartment and my client had some concerns of shortage of storage.

I also love CYNBOLIC Interior Designs idea of creating a counter along the corridor. Perhaps a part of the kitchen.

Would love to see what you designed eventually?
