Soothing bedroom...color suggestions please
Comments (10)Just wondering what is the current wall color? Looks lavender. I'm not a fan of accent walls in a bedroom. To me a bedroom should be relaxing and varying wall colors seem stimulating by their very nature (think they're great in other rooms though). But if you want to do one, I would do as you suggested, the wall where your headboard is located. Figure out what you want to keep (sounds like the headboard and the red chair are definitely staying), then work around that. I think cool greys are very pretty and a wonderful neutral that work would work well with your headboard and chair. Then you could bring in the other colors you like through bedding and artwork. If storage is an issue, can you get some bins on wheels for beneath your bed? Also can you consolidate all those smaller tables and get one larger table/storage piece in its place? I would check out IKEA if it's in your budget. Also given the size of your bedroom, if possible I would go with simple curtains that are the same color as your walls. Good luck!...See MoreLandscaping design with neighbor's garage
Comments (10)I agree with the others - ask your neighbor about painting the side of the garage that faces your yard. Depending on your style of decor, you can treat this as a part of your yard and change the appearance completely. Consider a low fence to separate your yard from the street/driveway, something similar to the red fence shown, to provide you a smaller "room" for entertaining. I live in an area where the side of the neighbors house defines the property line and have decorated the side of the neighbors house with various items to break up the expanse of wall (old window frames with the glass missing, sections of old iron fences, bird houses, etc); it really helps to cozy up the space. A trench filled with gravel and topped with larger rocks will help with the water issue and direct the water to other areas of the yard. A brick or paver patio would be lovely for establishing a conversation/grill area. The pictures submitted by PC have some great ideas. I can't recommend plants since I have not idea what part of the country you are located in...See MorePls help, mosaic doesn't match with wall tiles, how can I salvage this
Comments (13)Hi Rubypumps. Unfortunately you have made the common mistake of mixing undertones. I see this a lot as a colour consultant. Mistakes with your hard finishes are the worst kind because they are very costly to change. Right now your walls have a pink undertone and your walls behind the tub and counter are clearly blue grey. Since blue is complementary to pink, it brings out the pink in the tile even more and the clean blue makes the tile look dirty. It may be hard for you to see this, but this is what's happening and this is probably why you don't like your bathroom. Since you chose such a busy mosaic, it has become the boss (and focal point) of the room and I would now keep your other finishes as simple as possible. If you can, down the road, change the beige tile. Because unfortunately, there is no magic colour combination that will make it disappear. Working with what you have, I would most likely go with a more neutral cabinet like Uniboard G21 Viva Walnut. It will help warm up the space. Black is too stark for this bathroom....See MoreWhat should I do with this boring entrance?
Comments (9)Hi Rachel, This is quite easy to fix. Firstly I would brighten the space up with a white paint such as Nippon Violet Whispers (warm white), this will give you a good base to work from. Then I would replace your table with one that is larger. This table is too small to be useful and is making your entrance feel small. I recommend using teak and keeping this console table simple in design. On the wall I would place artwork - the bigger the better as this will make a dramatic statement. Then add some lighting (table lamp on console table) and decorative items and voila your entrance will be instantly chic! I have mocked up two options for you - one is based on blues, the other pinks, so depending on your preference you can go either way. This is the blue version with hints of tropical This is the pink version. I would love to work with you, so if you are interested in my ideas, please contact me via my website www.atelierlane.com Ellie Owner & Creative Director Atelier Lane...See MoreAri Mac
