Before-During-After Craft Area Transitions to Craft Room/Disaster Area
I have been kicking butt and taking names (and chewing bubble gum) this summer. I have gotten a ton of decluttering projects done. Last month, I converted hubby's old unused home office into my new craft room (and his study room as he has just gone back to school for his MBA). I previously had a couple shelving units in the basement. I have cleared those out and converted them into a disaster preparedness center.
With his old office, we purged like 75-80% of what was in there: garbage/recycle/electronics recycle/donations.
With my craft area, I purged some of the old stuff, but most of it was simply being reorganized in the new space.
With the disaster prep supplies, I brought them all together from different areas of the house to get them better organized including setting up "go bags" in case we needed to evacuate quickly. (Did you know September is National Preparedness Month?).
I'm so happy with how it has all come together and is all so much more usable space for hubby and I.

Original Author5 years agoOne step I took this year that helped a ton is that I put out the word on a local entrepreneurs group I belong to which encourages 1:1 meetings with people to ask if anyone would like to do a project swap 1:1 instead of the standard breakfast or lunch. I would be their minion for 2-3 hours on a project of their choice and then another day the same week, they would be my minion for 2-3 hours on a project of my choice. That was hugely helpful in getting some of these done. It's so much more fun (and effective) to work with someone who will just do what you say while you work (move that box, sort those things into piles, etc.)
