I would love to update my 1950’s fireplace I’m thinking of painting it the same color as my walls to lightened up the space My concern is the ugly black vents that are in the brick I don’t know what to do with them I’m not even sure what purpose they serve

Fplace was originally wood burning - it now has a gas insert

I also need advice on what to do with the brick tile on the floor

All advice/tips appreciated!Thanks

I would absolutely go ahead and paint it all. Not crazy about that brick, it looks dated and dull. I think paint will give it new life. I tried tonlfind some pictures of painted fireplaces with vents; looks like most people just paint those as well. hope that helps!

You can paint the vents if it is no longer wood burning. We don't think you need to paint the brick as all, just update the mantle.
