garage conversion - floor insulation advice please!

We are planning to partially convert our adjoining garage and knock through into current lounge. There is not much difference in floor height currently so when we have allowed for insulation and floor covering etc, we are faced with having a difference in floor height from the existing lounge resulting in us needing a step up and the new room being split level.
I am not averse to this but before we go down this route, I wondered if it were possible to find a floor insulation that was v thin but will the required minimum U value?
