master bath renovation
i'd love to get rid of tub but then what? to the left is a small toilet/ shower area. to the right off screen is master walk in. i know i need a new larger shower and larger area for toilet as well. in addition i need more storage. do i need to take out the windows. how much do you think it would cost?

Comments (13)I take it this isn't your bathroom. The glass could be handmade lead light which means bespoke by someone who makes lead light windows or it could be a transfer applied to a plain glass window. Check on ebay or online sticker/transfer stores for similar. I've never seen a piece like that in Australia so I'm thinking this might be an American antique. It's not normal to put an expensive antique piece in a bathroom and if you did it would be best in a bathroom that only has minimal use. And you would want to have a lot of good exhaust extraction to get rid of moisture. If you picked up one of those repro Indonesian mahogany pieces you would be spending a lot less money and might regard the piece as expendable. You can buy wood hardening sprays that resist moisture from the hardware store and spray the carcass (all the unstained pieces inside) with this stuff to resist moisture. Comments (1)Is this actually a 1,260 square foot house or apartment? I would suggest you turn Bedroom 2 into a large master bath attached to the master bedroom. Then, the two small hall bathrooms could be turned into one larger bathroom to serve guests and the person who uses Bedroom 3. If the bathroom fixtures are in good shape, you could use them over to save money and rely on paint and colorful accessories to make the two new bathrooms attractive. If you still want a third bedroom, I suggest you turn the study into a third bedroom. Comments (7)Master bedroom with the bathroom door closed. The Chinese wedding cabinet will move to another room. Now with the door opened and a wider view of the bedroom. Getting closer. The sink is protruding quite a lot in the room. I imagine one rectangular slate that is going from the door opening to the column. A view from the other side. The bath tub with the door closed. The same with the door opened, blocking the access to the tub. A view showing the glass that forms part of the corner of the room. I an thinking of hacking the glass area and the portion of the wall between the glass and the door leading to the bathroom, leaving the bottom part to prevent water from going to the bedroom. To close the space, I am thinking of folding nyato panels similar to the cabinet's doors for a unified look perhaps with some areas in stained glass for a Peranakan accent....See More

4 years agoWe have removed our tub, converted to a large walk in shower. Then we turned the old shower into a second closet. For us, the second closet became a shoe closet. But you could make it a linen closet or for additional clothes. I would only recommend this if you have another tub in the house somewhere. Good luck!!

4 years agoI would work with a local pro to document the existing conditions and come up with a couple of schemes showing options for the layout. If you want to relocate the walk-in shower into the tub area, you can include a window made from glass block in a vinyl frame and they are stunning. You can size them to fit most openings and tile them right in. We have installed several and they allow 90% of the light to come through and are completely private. Here are some examples:
