Cost of unblocking drains

We have two (partly) blocked exterior drains. One that can’t cope with heavy rainfall, the other is smelly because of (neighbours’) fat and detergent.

It‘s not an emergency.

Contacted a company which charges £75 labour per half hour plus £45 materials/equipment per half hour. Ex VAT.

Seems exorbitant to me, even for London.

Is that really what I should expect to pay or do you have different experience?

Maybe even a recommendation?

Thanks!

Hi Ed, The price seems ok, however, I would ask for a fixed price, rather than per half hour. We paid for a drain jet wash £180 last year, https://mrdrains.co.uk/

    Hope this helps

    Thank you both.

Is a ‘drain jet wash’ the same as using a pressure washer? I tried that on the drain that’s not coping with heavy rain but that didn’t do the job.

Might it work on the smelly drain? I could then do that myself (reluctantly since I haven’t caused the blockage...).

Its similar to pressure wash but its attached to a hose which they push down the drain to the blockage. Its not possible with a pressure washer alone. Yes price is good, we pay about £200 every time we have to get unblocked!
