Another lovely slipcover!

Hi - just curious, how hard was it to make this slipcover for a formal camel-back settee? I have one, good quality but trashed by endless dogs and cats, and I'm a pretty competent sewer, so I think I might be able to make a more robust slipcover for it, just wondering if there were any pitfalls, or tricks you might recommend?

Hi, again, thanks for the kind words.....I really love making slipcovers. Slipcovers are not always as easy to make as they look, and making them from a pattern? Forget it! Each slipcover we make here is custom fitted right onto the piece of furniture with a reverse pin fit method...good luck with your project!

You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example).

Leather will stand up to kids much better than cloth will. Another option that would be nice is a fabric sofa with a slipcover made of jeans denim. A friend of mine had one made of jeans she found in thrift stores. It looked cool, was very sturdy and everything the kids subjected the slipcover to added "character." IKEA has some good modular leather options.

UGH im going through the same thing. My household consists of 2 cats (one is a kitten who is hyper 24/7) a husband who plops down on everything, and eats anything he can while sitting on the sofa, a 60 lb german shepherd standard poodle mix that sheds like no other, and a 4 year old who spills, draws, puts make up on anything in sight! We are switching to leather. Its a lot more durable, so much easier to clean, the upkeep on a linen sofa is too much to handle, by the time I get done cleaning it, another stain is made! It also shows wear and tear a little too much. Have you thought about having a custom made cover? that way you can get the leather couch and then if you start to reallllly miss that linen put the cover on! I am personally a fan of pure white couches, and the sectional we are looking at is also a dark brown leather. I will be purchasing the sectional and also having a slip cover custom made so when I am feeling a little like I want a different texture for the furniture I can easily just slip that on.

Cement tile is very popular in my area now. My client is considering it for a bathroom. I am unlikely to recommend epoxy or any other coating. It would change the look and feel too much. I prefer to apply penetrant. I call it that, rather than "sealer," because it does not prevent leaks, or even absorption in porous tile, or grout. It protects calcium based cement and grout from reacting with acid, but it is not perfect and it needs to be reapplied periodically. Wine, salad dressing, lemon, and any tart food would react with cement I am hesitant to recommend cement tile for a bathroom. I am afraid of it as a kitchen floor. Sure it is a knock-out gorgeous material, but will caring for it make some clients wish they hadn't fallen in love? I would like to hear from home owners who have lived with it for a few years. Has anybody lived with it in another Morocco?
