What are these "shiny" cabinets made of? Is it wood with glossy paint or another material? Does anyone ever use marine paint on cabinets?

The different colors (island, cabinets, and frog wall) is interesting. However, I feel I should avoid something that is too trendy. I do not want things to be out of date quickly.

I do not believe these cabinets are white. I like the contrast with the wall. My floor is not as light though. It is maple.
