@traciel I concluded that you need to rebuild the gate with fence posts as the frame, then route out the fence posts like a door. Then you can use normal hardware. Of course you would then need to protect the smart lock with a rain guard, but there are parts to do that.
That kind of gate is a more high-end and aesthetic kind of door. My usual fence builder was a bit intimidated by it. I haven't done it yet but still want to do it.
