Brief Description of Design
Originally proclaimed as “the most glamorous production of all time”, Dinner at Eight is a movie that stands as the catalyst for the design of the condominium unit. Released in the 30’s, the setting is situated against art deco interiors that hype up the glamour and luxury of the characters’ lives in the film. With the movie’s interior environment as inspiration, a modern reinterpretation of the classic hit shall be integrated into the condominium unit.
Dinner at Eight can also be used to represent the everyday hustle and bustle of Singapore. Families spend their days out and about running their own activities, errands and work. Usually, dinnertime is when families in Singapore are reunited and completely gathered together to enjoy each other’s company at home. So, this condominium unit aims to act as a idyllic home that one can look forward to coming back to at the of a long day– a time for gathering with family.
Taking the aforementioned themes of luxury and gatherings, Dinner at Eight also stands for setting the condominium as a hotspot for parties amongst the family and their friends. The luxurious themes shall epitomize the movie’s central theme of dinner parties and extravagance. This shall all help create an enjoyable scene for personal social functions by utilizing the spacious setting of the condominium.
While taking heavy influence from the interiors of the thirties, a modernized twist on the creation of an art deco paradise set in the middle of Singapore shall be created. An urban paradise to be filled with a melting pot of patterns, metallics, colors and eclectic pieces.
Original furniture highlights
I would like to highlight the living room’s custom designed entertainment cabinet. Additionally, I’d also like to highlight both the living and dining rooms’ custom designed brass partitions.
