Once predominately used for cooking, modern kitchens are now multi-purpose spaces where we don’t just want to cook, but also eat, work, watch TV, read the paper or hang out with friends. Essentially, the kitchen has become the hub or ‘heart’ of many of our homes.
For this to work successfully requires careful planning, with designers taking the time to understand the wants and needs of each household, so they can create the ideal hub for each. Hi stillsmiling, ensuring sufficient storage or incorporating a designated spot for your belongings- and making sure everyone knows about it- should help with this. Eg. You might have hooks on the back of a door or wall in your hallway for coats and bags. Likewise a small hook rack for keys will help keep surfaces clear- and stop you losing them! You could also invest in a small letter rack and/or magazine rack which will keep your post/mail tidy. Regularly binning your junk mail and other bits & pieces that tend to gather but which aren't needed will also help keep your kitchen clear. Finally, you might designate a kitchen drawer or cupboard for any leftover clutter; you won't have to nag but other household members will learn where to look if they find their belongings have been moved after leaving them lying around for too long!
