Thanks David. I was afraid of that. We don’t have room for a double gang box because the box is in a post with supporting 2x4s. This is really the only place we could put the switches. We are thinking about putting a radio frequency remote in the ceiling near the lights and switch. We would then use a regular double switch and the remote would control the dimming.

Kellie, I am a big fan of Lutron's Caseta products if you can hide them in the ceiling. A pair of dimmers and then a pair of Pico remotes could do the job- mount the Picos with a double-gang plate on the post (they do not need a back box), hide the two dimmers in the ceiling or elsewhere, and you'll be good to go.
