One Light, 12 Homes: The Whimsical Skygarden by Marcel Wanders
Any built environment can have a 'garden', albeit in the form of a moulded plastic relief of plants and floral motifs
Marcel Wanders, founder of Dutch design brand Moooi designed the Skygarden S for lighting manufacturer Flos (available at Space) ten years ago. Also known as the Skygarden pendant light, it was launched at Euroluce 2007.
It’s a sleek, simple dome on the outside; but inside the dome is a bas relief inspired by the ornate plaster ceiling in a house where the designer once lived.
The combination of contemporary and romantic makes it the ideal lamp for sophisticated-fusion and modern-with-a-whimsical-touch interiors.

Anchoring a loft in New York, USA
The Skygarden is great for high ceilings such as this open-plan loft because it doesn’t detract from the volume of the space, yet at the same time brings a soft, intimate glow where you need it.

A feminine touch in Notting Hill, UK
In this sleek, modern dining room, with its mid-century chairs, the bas relief of the Skygarden adds a pretty flourish.
Because of its contrasting shell and interior detailing, the Skygarden pendant works really well in a space that has traditional mouldings but yet is decorated in a contemporary way.

Curves in Mexico
The Skygarden mimics the curves of the lounge chairs in this bedroom, and provides that floral view to the bed’s occupants when they look up the ceiling – just as Wanders intended.
