There was no doorway connecting the original butler's pantry with the family room (added in the 1950's). One had to walk to the left, through the dining room and then back into the family room. Our re-design opened the doorway for direct access from the family room to the kitchen, via the pantry.....much more condusive to today's family lifestyle. The new butler's pantry has a second dishwasher, wine cooler and big new second sink as well as a lot more storage.
