CONTEXTUAL HOUSE ON THE LAKE

This all-new house is part of an enclave of eight homes built between 1937 and 1939. All the houses featured stone exteriors, classical entry ways, and dark stained wood front doors. Therefore, this home was built to fit seamlessly with the older, neighboring homes. On the inside, the design took a different tone, drawing inspiration from the open floor plans of LeCorbusier, and the combinations of classical and vernacular forms in the work of Edwin Lutyens. Marvin casements over Marvin French doors created the continuous ribbon appearance, which nicely complemented this open floor plan. Pairing traditional trim with the wall of windows in back served to blend the forms of traditional architecture with modern spatial ideas.
