Country Courtyard

This courtyard was part of a larger country garden in Cheshire. The courtyard linked the different buildings of the house and was the main viewpoint from the house into the garden. Before re-design, the courtyard lacked any interest, was disjointed and did not draw you out into the garden. DESIGN BREIF: The clients wanted a welcoming courtyard for informal entertaining, and wanted to link through to the swimming pool. The focal element of the new design is the serpentine bench, with a flowing stone wall linking through from the house to the swimming pool. This wall defines the seating area and creates informal seating. The main part of the courtyard was planted with four winter flowering cherries to add structure and seasonal interest.
