We completely renovated an entire backyard during the course of this project. They originally had a pool that was in poor state, and several planting areas that had grown out of control. We filled the pool and created a new, smaller pool out of gunnite, shaping it in such a way that allowed us to include an automatic pool cover. The design also includes outdoor fireplace with a connected seat wall to frame the space and provide transition. The seat wall also forms the area for the hot tub, so that it is a vital part of the design and entertainment area. At the opposite end of the installation, there is a "pondless" fall with attractive landscaping behind it. To the side of the main fall, there is a secondary fall that leads to a stream, a bridge and a small, natural koi pond. When we originally discussed the pond design, the customer did not want koi; that attitude changed the moment they saw the first few fish swimming around, and the idea for a smaller seating area near the pond was born. We installed a small circle with space for a firepit, and the customers spend a great deal of time viewing the koi from that patio.
