Set on a sprawling equestrian ranch, this contemporary ranch home in Southern California emphasizes a mixture of materials and textures. The homeowners wanted a warm, rustic feel throughout the home, without sacrificing open contemporary spaces. From the exterior, they wanted the house to appear balanced from any angle, without a defined front, side, or back. Natural materials provide the home a time-worn character. Varying materials like quartzite stone floor, cherry wood cabinets, gum wood doors, clear cedar ceilings, and hand-scraped exposed beams all provide dramatic texture. Marvin provided custom arch-top windows, as well as screens that can easily be hidden away for an aesthetically pleasing view.
