Fernhill Landscapes | Project Design: Doug Myers APLD

The clients specifically wanted a Koi pond, a space for dining and entertaining, a path between the home and studio and a viewing platform attached to the studio. The organic character of the site along with the modest and humble beauty of the architecture called for a garden with a romantic nature. Myers set out to design an unconventional, earthy and simple garden characterized by the suggestion of natural process and the uncontrollability of nature. There is a subtle contrast between the geometric organization of the Koi pond and living spaces and the irregular organization of the plantings and the stream. The living areas and pathways, although characterized with natural materials, are defined by a series of rectangles, whereas the plantings and stream are designed with soft vague shapes and edges.
