NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY REFURBISHMENT

We are proud to have been involved in the renovation of two significant buildings at Newcastle University, which underwent extensive renovation work on the campus to improve the thermal efficiency of the historic buildings. ARMSTRONG BUILDING: Architectural Bronze were commissioned in 2016 to replace 2,690 windows in this incredible building that can be seen in the distance of the top image. Each opening was unique and required templating. Working closely with heritage advisors, the inward opening windows incorporated specially designed extrusions, ironmongery and restrictor stays. This would allow rooms to be ventilated without posing any potential danger to students. The thermal imaging slide shows the difference in heat loss between the original single glazed windows and the new argon filled double glazed units. STUDENT UNION BUILDING: Works were commissioned earlier in 2010 for the replacement of 415 bronze windows for the building seen in the foreground above. Openings were fitted with a combination of side opening and pivot windows with decorative leaded lights.
