Peppermint House, Wagga Wagga

Located in a semi-rural suburb in regional NSW, the underlying principles for the design was to craft a modest but finely shaped home that created a dialogue with the large sloping site. The small home demonstrates to the public domain, how the concept of an efficient layout can lead to a happy and beautiful way of life. The home is set well back from the street, allowing for a large garden landscape interface. Inspired by nature’s colours, a polished concrete floor with exposed aggregates forms the stable platform on which the home is balanced. A central sculptural stair forms a spiritual spine for the home. The carefully documented steel arrangement supports the structural insulated panel system that deliver an external insulating wall fabric, adding a textural quality to the interior. Sustainability was a critical component of the design brief as was connections between the house and the cycle of nature.
