Rooms Within Rooms

This is an update of an early 1980's one story home. The long living space was divided into three sections: a comfortable area by the fireplace; a small television and conversation area; and, a book nook. The book nook was created by lowering and flattening out the ceiling at the end of the vaulted ceiling space. The nook table is used as often for casual dining and games as it is for books and laptops. The low bookcase behind the couch helps separate areas while maintaining an open concept to the space. For a more formal look the bookcase is used for both display and books. A vintage lamp throws some light on the couch while being low enough to keep the spaces open. Minimal items on flat surfaces keep the space calm but there are still places to display and place favorite items. The look is eclectic with antique French chairs, Thomas O'Brien couch by Hickory Chair, a contemporary coffee table with stainless steel legs, vintage lamp, glass top on cast iron nook table, tile floors...
