Sea Inspired Kitchen
First question we like to ask when designing a kitchen is what is the usage? Then, do you cook often? Do you entertain? Do the kids do homework on the island? Do you need desk space? Where does your mail collect? Are you a baker? The homeowner wanted a fully functional kitchen that could take a lot of wear and tear. Every time she entertains, all her guests gather in her kitchen. She wanted plenty of room by the oven and stove to get in and out. Here we extended the island countertop space to allow for all the dishes the homeowner cooks to be displayed and served buffet style to her guests. She does a lot of chopping and wanted built in garbage cans right below her work area.
She wants not only a very functional kitchen but also one that looks striking. The focal point of the kitchen is the mosaic marble tile design below the stainless steel hood. This kitchen marries traditional looking cabinetry with the sleek modern stainless steel and old world style of full marble 1"x1" tile backsplash. We contrasted the dark stained traditional cabinetry with white granite countertops. The movement and chunks of green in the island remind us of the ocean and sea glass. The kitchen is functional, fashionable and handsomely beautiful.
