Texas Hill Country Exterior

Shown here is a dormer required and facilitatiing the use of what may otherwise be Attic space. Also shown is the use of lap siding, board and batten on the dormer, a standing seam metal roof over the porch and composition shingles over the main roof. Stone is also used on the exterior facade, but not shown in this picture. Review of the historical evolution of the Texas Hill Country style will reveal that early sellters often built a small home that barely served their needs, and based on available funds and the availibity of materials from local sources. As they made improvements to their properties, the clearing of land for farming and or ranching produced trees that could be milled and used as building materials. Exteiror sidings that could be economically milled from the land owners trees often did not match the products purchased and used in the original structure. Stone is most often a part of the Texas Hill County style, because stone formations make up a large part because the geographical area. Clearing a piece of property, and removal of stone which can be found in abundance produced a buildng product that was readily available to the land owners and free of charge, except for their labor eforts.
