I must express my utter dissatisfaction with Color Theory. First and foremost, Color Theory's "estimates" are not estimates, they are quotes, even though they call them estimates. The quotes are based on an hourly rate, no matter how much Torlando wants to say that they aren't. There was a huge discrepancy between the actual hours worked, and the amount I was charged (I was charged for twice as many hours as were worked). Torlando tried to tell me that the "estimates" (which he should clearly state is a quote) are based on piece meal work and not hourly. This is utter rubbish, as any additional work is at the same quoted hourly rate of $40 an hour. Either way, none of this was communicated to me beforehand by the estimator (she clearly stated the "units" on the estimate were hours worked and mentioned nothing of piece meal work), and it seems like Torlando made this up on the fly. Secondly, if you're like me and want to support local business or hire a local crew, forget about it. Color Theory subcontracts all of their work with out of town (mostly Indy) painters. The language barrier with the subcontracted crew made it very difficult to convey what I wanted done with my house. I'm assuming that's why the painters painted the limestone ledging on a few of my windows, I clearly did not want them to paint the limestone. Regardless, I think any professional painter would have known not to paint the limestone or would have at least asked first before doing so. Third, I was given no heads up that I would be receiving a call from a subcontracted crew, and when I received the call it was someone who's first language is not English. Due to this, I wasn't sure who was calling me and thought it might have been a telemarketer. Again, I was given no heads up by CT to expect this phone call and was taken by surprise. After all of this, the crew showed up at the house a week earlier than scheduled and with no advance notice to power wash the house. Fourth, the crew showed up at random times, and would sometimes leave for hours without notice. On the last day of work, the crew just left unannounced at 2:30 PM. The following Monday, the crew leader called me and asked if I wanted them to do a walk through. When asked why they left on Friday without notice, he claimed the crew knocked on the door and rang the doorbell which is an outright lie as we were home. They had missed painting a window frame and patching holes that I had asked them to patch, and also painted my windows shut. If they had done the walk through on Friday they would have caught these things and saved themselves a trip. I only saw Torlando onsite one time for 20 minutes. I received no follow up with him after the completion of the job to ask my satisfaction or just a general follow up. The next communication I received was my bill. I could easily have received the same quality much cheaper, and with a local crew. I really wish I had considering how expensive CT is and the lack of support and follow up I received. I would advise anyone else to do the same.

It was an experience I would not wish for you. Painters did not show up at all when they said they would. Then they would show up on days they didn't forewarn me. I got an email one day saying after their meeting they may be able to come that day. Then did not hear from them for days. Very expensive especially for the quality and service given. A job supposed to take just a few days took over three weeks. The equivalent of two small rooms were painted, and a few cabinets-not many! Having a small living space, I was forced to live in very confined spaces because I was told first thing to push all my furniture to the center of the two small rooms. I had to step over things or squeeze between them. My cupboards had all been emptied with contents boxed and stored wherever I could find places for them around my home. I couldn't have people or family over for all that time. It was very inconvenient and difficult to prepare food in the kitchen. My cabinet doors were taken the first day. I never saw them again until the last day. So their boxed up contents were not easily accessible for even simple food prep. *Tools were placed on a very expensive piece of furniture and on the dining room table even after I noted this to the owner and left a note for the painters. In fact, it was done again on the same day I removed a sharp object and placed on the floor with the note. I came home and it was on the dining room table. *I have paint drips on the floor throughout the rooms including on top of my refrigerator. *Cabinet hinges are partially painted with old color showing obviously. A number of screws were stripped and not replaced and never painted. So I have one color screws and a different color on cabinets. *A chip was taken off the edge of that expensive piece of furniture with a 1 inch scratch on the other side. They are new. *Corners where there are different colors on the walls that meet are painted sloppily. *All the sorry's along the way could never make up for what I was put through even after contacting the owner several times. Even if the paint job had been excellent, I could never wish this experience on anyone and never being able to trust what you are told.

The Color Theory Company stained the inside of my steel front door. The color matched the paneling in my living room. They also painted the trim around the door to match the paneling. I was very pleased with their work. They were punctual and neat and reasonable.

After a number of estimates I finally decided on Color Theory to complete the exterior painting to my home. I couldn’t be happier with the work performed; the work started on time and was completed in the time frame per the estimate. If you’re looking for a company that will provide a quality service with a professional staff and a fair price, I recommend Color Theory as a first choice. Dave H

Torlando was one of the best contractors we've ever hired. Super-friendly, reasonably priced, always on time, and did amazing work.

We had about half a house painted, including kitchen, a bathroom, 1 small bedroom, and the basement. All the work was completed in timely fashion and color selection has held up to be quite good.

Torlando has an impeccable eye for detail and elegant design, plus an extremely professional team of artists, (and overall AWESOME people), that completely transformed my home. Very tidy; non-disruptive and genuinely talented group. Nearly every room color was updated and actually looking forward to having them back to update intricate French kitchen cabinetry. Absolutely the best in Bloomington.

Torlando and his crew came in to paint our 2-story entranceway initially. Torlando's color consult and estimate process was very professional, he was timely and extremely helpful and patient! We ended up having them paint our entranceway as well as our kitchen and living room. They did a beautiful job on the work - they were done quickly and the colors are lovely. Great job! On time, clean, detailed work! Work was on all exterior Windows and overhangs, stuff i did not want to do. They knocked it out quickly and did great work. I Highly recommend Torlando and his entire crew.
