About Us

Ming Architects is a Singapore based design-focused architectural firm known for creating well-crafted contemporary homes suited for modern living. The practice was established by Tan Cher Ming, who graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2007. Having worked at several renowned architecture firms in Singapore before starting his practice, Cher Ming has extensive experience in both the architecture and interior design of residential landed houses and specializes exclusively in contemporary luxury homes. Over the past years, the firm’s projects have rapidly become known for bold and elegant spaces and have been widely featured in prominent publications such as Singapore Tatler Homes, Cubes magazine and D+A magazine, as well as international online architecture journals Archdaily and Houzz. The practice has a strong focus on both the building exterior as well as the interior design, arising from the view that holistic architecture has no boundaries between the two. Cher Ming, a registered architect in Singapore, takes great pride in each of his projects, and is passionate about the process of creating well-designed homes together with his clients. He is heavily involved in and personally oversees each of his projects from the first concept design sketch to delivery and handover of the home. Cher Ming, Erica and team are splendid to work with. They are talented, professional, patient, practical and resourceful, all the traits that are necessary when it comes to a complex project like house-building. Our family couldn't have asked for better architects to help us build our dream home. Their designs are not only contemporary and unique but also practical, which is necessary for daily living. After evaluating several architects, we decided to engage Ming Architects to build our home back in 2019. Looking back, it has been a great decision and it has been a wonderful jouney working with the team. From a design and concept perspective, Cher Ming was creative in his crafting of functional spaces to overcome typical challenges of long but narrow plots. They were also very patient and meticulous in the planning phase, taking into consideration the differing needs of each family member, Every single detail was carefully considered and well attended to. From a cost and budgeting viewpoint, Cher Ming is mindful of our requirements and able to propose practical solutions without being wasteful. Without compromising on quality, he would research and propose suitable alternative materials to achieve the desired effects. For project management, our construction period coincided with the unprecedented pandemic. Cher Ming was mindful of our timelines and coordinated very well with the builder to deliver the house on schedule which is truly remarkable in times like this when many projects had to be delayed. Cher Ming and team have displayed utmost professionalism and we are very satisfied with the end product. It has been a wonderful collaboration and we greatly appreciate their dedication and commitment. We met a couple of architects and decided on Ming Architects in the end as we liked his contemporary design/style. We find him creative and yet practical and flexible. We particularly like his detailed planned of spaces where he took into account our living habits and views. At the same time, he also had firmed views on certain themes and style that he wanted to achieve with this space. We really enjoyed working with Cher Ming and his team. They were approachable, responsible, responsive and managed our contractors and project well. Our project progressed as per schedule and we are very happy with the end product. Even after we moved in, they continued to follow up which is great. We strongly recommend Ming Architects.

Cher Ming and his team have been professional and their designs have been outstanding. We revisited the plans many times and they were very patient in listening to our thoughts. Everything was tailored according to our needs. No detail was deemed too small. Even after we moved in, Cher Ming continued to follow up on every single detail. I engaged Cher Ming and his team to redesign my house in year 2018. Cher Ming has creatively remodelled my old house to a contemporary one, integrating steel and wood works in achieving a modern, aesthetic look. Importantly, he was mindful of my budget and demonstrated flexibility to work around ideas to minimise changes. It was a pleasant experience working with Cher Ming and his team as they had shown commitment to deliver the project till completion.

Cher Ming is an outstanding architect as he is able to think out of the box to come to beautiful and workable solutions. As our house consists of a long stretch of land, he is able to design it into 3 very functional and practical areas, with the middle courtyard linking with the living area and the dry kitchen/dining area, It also allows plenty of natural light to flow inside the house. His architectural skills are also well reflected in the choice of materials for the walls, flooring and ceiling. What is commendable is his openness and willingness to listen to client views and he is very responsive and attentive to little details. As he is also very patient and easy to work with, he is able to co-ordinate well with us, contractors and suppliers, thus enabling our house to be completed in a timely manner. All in all, we are very pleased with his services and our house.

Architect Tan Cher Ming was engaged to con-temporise our existing Neo-classical style bungalow. Desirous in maintaining the overall structure, architect Ming was charged to make additions and alterations to facilitate the flow and usage of the space, incorporating new building designs, and suitable for aging occupants as well their personal lifestyle. The results included the installation of an elevator, wine cellar, and the introduction of a modern dry kitchen (facilitating small group entertainment), while enabling the entertainment of large groups in the addition of a pavilion by the poolside. Besides these major additions, alterations include provision of an updated network system, remotely controlled security, lighting, and air conditioning systems. The architect contributed many contemporary design ideas, which we adopted, having lived in several countries and seen many homes and country specific ideas. The wine cellar was an example of these exchange of ideas, and also, the design of the AV room equipped with state of the art equipment. The project took about 19 months.

Ming was instrumental in the re-modelling of our new appartment. He truly is talented in his design and use of space. Aptitude aside, Ming's personality also made it a pleasant experience working together. He was ever patient and always full of tact in dealing with our sometimes far-flung ideas.

I tore down my house to rebuild a few years ago. I decided that the new house should be practical, easy to maintain and pleasant. I found that Cher Ming has a flair for design. He was also very accommodating of my opinions and wishes and was also very cost conscious. He has eyes for details and he supervised the project very closely throughout the whole rebuilding. Cher Ming did an excellent job and I am very satisfied with the outcome.

Cher Ming was a pleasure to work with! House builds can be stressful, even at the best of times but Cher Ming was always there for us - He was available for calls and queries and discussions. With his easy going and positive attitude we really felt that we were in good hands and we could build the house that we had we hoped for!
