Is the counter granite? How does it hold up to the heat generated by grills and midwest winters?

Yes the countertops are granite. They hold great in the midwest. They can take the heat of the summers and the cold from the winters. They are also preferred as they are a solid surface and won't hold germs, etc.

Don't know about ABET laminates, but grew up with laminate countertop from a different mfg. No problems. We never placed anything hot directly on them, always used hot plates. But then again, i would never place anything hot directly on a granite counter. To nice looking...why take the chance ?

Hello, I am thinking of using metal (blacken steel??? any suggestions?) for my counter top which will house a top mounted sink and an induction hob. Does anyone have any experience with using a metal counter top or pros and cons to do something like that? I've seen it done in Aseop stores but I wonder if it works in a home kitchen setting.
