Big girl room - how to decorate around this rug?

I bought this rug a couple years ago, and I'd love to use it in my 3 year old's new big girl room. But I can't seem to figure out how to decorate with it! I want a fun, playful, bright room and I can't think of what colors for bedding and walls to make it work. Any suggestions are welcome!

Comments (1)Hey vlau. How big is this pillar? Do you have a photo you could post? I'm thinking if it's big enough/circular, it could be fun to do circular seating around it. But it definitely depends on where it is in the room. I've also heard of people doing spiral book cases around columns, or painting them with stripes etc. But if you don't really like it, or are trying to "disguise" it, my best advice is just to leave it alone--decorating it to any extent will definitely draw attention to it....See MoreTiny Flat
Comments (10)What do you think of a mirror for the backsplash on the kitchen? You cant see the pic here, but it faces a huge window on the other side of the room. I love the idea of grey/ dark cabinets, (with a wood coloured surface worktop) but might cost a small fortune to rework it. Will check on prices. The wallpaper idea is also really nice - much to mull through. so hard to decide! I'm thinking of replacing the dining table set with a booth + round table seating and maybe add a mirror behind it space. Not sure if i can fit a whole L booth into the dining space and still fit in a table, so might just settle for a booth on one side....See Morei am bored with the look of my home!

I would say just a tad more yellow if your husband can bear it, doesn't have to be solid yellow. I'd add something else on the left shelves (I'd move one shelf of photos to the right hand shelving and swap for some books), maybe a ginger jar if you can get an old one. Comments (8)Hi 4eva zx, It's not optimum if you don't want to build a bespoke TV wall/console where I've placed the TV here (suggest that you get something where you can swivel the TV towards the sofa, or slightly extend that wall so the TV can be directly in front of the sofa), but in terms of spatial efficiency, your round table would be better placed like so: This is so that it's near the kitchen and you can use it for meals for more than two people. This placement will also allow you to make this family heirloom a visual focal point and conversation piece for your home. If you ever need to use a bigger table for gatherings with more people, you can simply put a rectangular top onto the round table and seat 6-8 people – the placement provides for space that allows this. 9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoI'd do something like a soft yellow/beige wall color with white trim to pop the strong purples in the rug. Something like the colors of the room in this photo. It'll be timeless and easy to update as she grows. Use the changeable elements like bedspread and pictures for the kid stuff.
If you have the space, consider going ahead and getting a double or queen sized bed, not a twin.
This bed from Ethan Allen has the drama to work with the rug, but also would be a great bed for a teenager or young adult with more sophisticated linens.
