Should I paint my kitchen cabinets white?
I love my little apartment, don't get me wrong! I've decided to renew my lease but if I'm staying here at least another year I feel like it just needs some updating. What's bugged me since day one is that the kitchen cabinets don't match the [original!] hardwood floors. I think that painting the cabinets white and adding some hardware would be a big improvement. I also want to update the yucky backsplash - I've heard good things about those peel and stick backsplashes! So what do you think? The only furniture in the kitchen is my table and chairs which are black and glass so I don't have much of a color scheme going on. The adjacent living room is the same light blue and the adjacent bathroom is a dark gray. I've thought about hanging curtains nice and high but I'm worried that my cats will destroy them; they've got a track record haha. Thank you!

Comments (12)I would seriously consider replacing the cabinets before putting a new granite countertop on them. The problem is that no one will remove the countertop at a later date if you want to change the cabinets, due to the possibility of breakage. The only choice you will have then is a reface. Adding new doors, drawer fronts, and veneered sides is just a facelift. You could also add new hardwood drawers with undermount cushion close slides, but by the time you do this if will be the same cost as new cabinets now. The cabinets you have now, frameless, particle board sides are notorious for having the hinge screws strip out the particle board they are attached to. Since you can't put a longer screw in them, because the material is only 3/4" of an inch thick you have a problem. Comments (2)Photos didn't attach. Mint is a horrible colour (IMHO) and I have it in spades in my rental. I've ignored it and accented the way I want. It seems to have calmed down since I started using bold colours like red (rugs) and orange (painted cafe street scene). The light in my place is quite warm...so I've been having fun by ignoring the mint. Colours like burnt sienna and many forms of orange seem to work well with mint. Comments (4)The new look is more white with wooden furniture and straight edges. For living room, clear white table and add more modern modern accessories in metal. The pink needs to be replaced with a brown or a mustard yellow cover(to make it stand out but yet within a warm tone). Beige sofa can have 2 cushions on each corner to neaten up. Cushion covers can be black and white modern patterns and maybe a small size in mustard yellow matching accent chair.
