8 years agoLight and airy...but cozy... Says drapes to me, but neutral ones similar to your couch. Perhaps iron or wood rods? Even white! Let your rug stay the darker neutral. A teal tray on the ottoman to bring out your pillows. I think your wall art over the mantle is hung a bit too high, I would center them to the TV nook. You could buy teal, grey and white spray paint and paint all the frames a hodgepodge of color in your gallery to brighten up that area!

Comments (8)One more question: If I use white shutters, does that mean I have to also have white doors inside the house? Should the internal doors match the window frames or the shutters? Comments (1)You have a very difficult room to work with here. For the curtains I would definitely choose something with pattern and a color that will "warm up the space" . I would buy longer panels that would go to atleast the top of the baseboard. I would also add a textured bamboo shade in a warm wood tone behind the curtains. By layering the window treatments you can completely hide the window when you don't want to see it without having to mess with the curtains. If you are going to keep all of the furnishings that you have in the room, I would defintely rearrange them. I would try to wall-mount the TV on the wall where the white sofa is now.You could place it on a hinged bracket which would allow you to swing it out for viewing and then push back out of the way when not in use. If cou cannot wall mount it, I still think that I would relocate it here. I would place the white sofa in front of the window (with it's lovely new blinds and curtains) which would supply a better "backdrop" for it than the white wall which it is now blending into. If you could, it would actually be a good idea to lose the white couch altogether, leave the black sofa where it is, and place a low bench or a pair of ottomans facing the black couch thus creating a conversation group while still being able to see over them when watching TV. I would define the seating group with a plush area rug with plenty of warm color that will compliment your new curtains while warming up the white floors. Comments (6)HI -- Great windows !! Full white drapes right across the whole window wall , full length ceiling to floor and wall to wall . Long low 3 or 4 seat sofa or square sectional in white (leather or fabric ?) and a swivel chair or two in black (leather or fabric ?) Have the sofa and chair-s in either material just not both the same . A long reclaimed /distressed wood dining room table -- you need the wood for a bit of warmth in the room. Modern white and chrome chairs and maybe two funky statement chairs for each end of the table.Too cold and flat looking to have total black and white. An area rug for living room area -no rug under dining room table. The area rug could be one with a salt and pepper texture or a chevron pattern or similar . Comments (8)if you lighten the cabinets etc, then the stone will appear more prominent. if that is what you want, that is fine. I sensed that you did not like the current counter. I would contact a marble/granite installer to see if they think that the cracks can be filled and polished out. it is pretty common to do this on new installations if it is feasible. they may try to charge you as as much as you would spend on a fabricating a counter out of a new slab if they did not do the original installation....See More

8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoMelody, your room is lovely and I love the furniture design and details. To warm it up as you'd like, perhaps add some interesting organic/natural elements. A monkey pod twist stool by the chair? It will relate to the floor and with the bar stool legs. I like your interesting art flanking the FP but I would move them, hung vertically to the right of your opening where the bar stools, one low, and one a bit higher than eye level. Another reason to move the art by the fireplace because window treatments on the FP wall should extend past the window about 8 inches - that way the curtains when open will expose the entire window. A natural wood, round tray on the ottoman will add to the organic feel.

8 years agoMelody, the room is lovely. I do think the picture collage above the console is a liitle too high, but instead of just pictures think of adding some small round mirrors or metal art to the grouping. Maybe lean a silver rectangular mirror behind the lamp and fill in sides.
I would get glass tables for the end of sofas by bar stools , You have alot of fabric pieces so break it up, Do not put anything by the chair & sofa leave it open. A blue wooden tray for the ottoman and consider lowering the art on FP side.

8 years agoYOu can still keep the photos above the sofa, personal call, but they would all have to be re-arranged. Might be easier to get a nice piece of art.

8 years agoOne more little detail that oddly makes a big difference. For your ceiling fan light bulbs, install chandelier like clear bulbs instead of the normal milky light bulbs. These are clear LED and available at big box stores for about $8 each.
