White or black benchtops?- I can't decide!

I'm thinking either matte black or a white marble look ceasarstone, love to know what others think would suit my kitchen. It's quite a small galley kitchen but has high ceilings, jarrah boards, and gets lots of bright light. I'm inclined toward black for an Art Deco feel but love classic design and thought white might keep things open and elegant. Love to hear your preferences. Thanks!

Comments (5)I agree with Carolyn - a new coat of paint can make a world of difference. There's really not too much about the house that 'screams' a certain decade - so you're luckier than lots of us. I hate that teracotta colour on the gable ends personally, and I think that would be good to paint out. I would consider painting al the bits that are currently white a darker more serious colour (grey, taupe etc) and then paint the trim and the entry ceiling white. Also consider painting the roof - as it is a big element and teracotta tile colour doesn't always work with your colour scheme. Comments (12)I would seriously consider replacing the cabinets before putting a new granite countertop on them. The problem is that no one will remove the countertop at a later date if you want to change the cabinets, due to the possibility of breakage. The only choice you will have then is a reface. Adding new doors, drawer fronts, and veneered sides is just a facelift. You could also add new hardwood drawers with undermount cushion close slides, but by the time you do this if will be the same cost as new cabinets now. The cabinets you have now, frameless, particle board sides are notorious for having the hinge screws strip out the particle board they are attached to. Since you can't put a longer screw in them, because the material is only 3/4" of an inch thick you have a problem. Comments (20)work out the wall space you want to cover, measure this on the floor. then start laying out our design within the space on the floor to create your design. There has to be lines running through the collage so there is a method to the madness- we don't want a messy looking arrangement, there must be a flow. You can line up the matts with outside edge of other frames etc. Layout all of your pics on the floor and mix up the frame styles and sizes amongst your layout. Take photos of your layout and then start hanging. My tip is don't start hanging until you have your plan 100% !!! lots of neck stretches too! i recently put together this collage and need a neck massage afterwards ;-)...See More
