How can I spice up my boring balcony?
Hi there Houzzers!
I've recently moved into a new apartment and I'm just done with doing up my place. I'm really pleased with my entire house with the exception of my balcony.
I have a small balcony at the far corner of the house, so the blandness of the balcony doesn't affect the overall look of my place. But I'd really like to put in more effort into my balcony and turn it into a cosy corner for an occasional beer at night or a afternoon tea time area with my partner to chill at.
The limitations with my balcony is that it does not have a sheltered roof. So it gets wet during rainy days and cleaning up is can be a chore during rainy seasons.
I'd appreciate any decor tips for my bland balcony! Cleaning advice on how to maintain the cleanliness of balconies are also welcome! Thanks :)

10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoHaving plants in the balcony is the easier way to spice it up. You could consider a wall garden or few larger potted plants like snake plants, money plants, fiddle-leaf fig, etc...which are easy to grow and maintain. Or if you are not the plant-type, why don't consider putting some decorative accents that could withstand rain & shine like decor pots, petrified wood/bamboo sculptures ? Checkout :

You are so right @decoenthusiaste the view is beautiful and one reason why I chose the apartment. the room is longer than it is wide, and I wanted the kitchen/bar to be included in the seating so the attached pic is how I was planning to lay it out. @cdrdesign I can't/change the table, its a gorgeous mahogany piece I had custom made and one I see keeping for some years yet! I dont plan a TV in this room, will put it in another room. This room in for living and entertaining guests. Sorry I dont have layout software, so you will have to make do with my scribbles using powerpoint! Really appreciate it so much. My chesterfield measures about 210cm by 89cm by 75cm...hence I am not sure if there is still space for an armchair. I love the aviator chair from restoration hardware but probably have to give it a miss as the arm chair's length is about 100 cm . Any advice on any armchair that can go with the chesterfield? Our proposed solution is to build a stainless steel structure with industrial-grade walkway grating to span the depression in the balcony. This solution ensures a lifespan of 10 years and beyond. Then, we give homeowners the option of covering the area with artificial grass or wooden decking. I'm not sure about your balcony, but most balconies do get rainwater falling on it. Comments (1)The only way to truly cat proof a house is to not have a cat / kitten, so you need to get rid of some of your anxiety and be prepared to have a bit of damage e.g. they may claw your couches etc. Easiest tip is to never have net curtains as they will be the first to go. Some cats will also use bean bags as toilets because they make the same type of noise and feeling of kitty litter so be prepared for that. I think you should consider getting an older cat. One from a rescue centre. Set it up with a lovely bed in the sun, allow it to see outside, have one if not two kitty litter boxes in the house and keep them clean....See More- 10 years ago
9 years agoI use my balcony for multiple purposes: sunning of laundry, storage area and chilling out area. So I bought pieces of furniture which are foldable and easily tucked away when I need to make space. Here, I have a beach-chair and a birch shelf (which I place vertically for storage when not in use.) The fairy lightings make a the difference to add ambience to the chill-out area. (Puffy says Hi.)
