Would you mind telling me the width of the steps and the width of the fire pit?

Hello, I'm not sure as I was the photographer on the project. The fire pit is by Paloform and if I had to guess on the steps I would say just under 4'.

You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example).

Try a pergola over the door and one over the windows in the middle. You can have lucite or plastic or fiberglass roofing installed on top of it to keep rain out and vining plants for shade.

Hi mramsey and Alain Thanks for your advice and comments. I found a reflective paint from the US that apparently is meant to resolve the heat issue yet still allowing light to flow through. Doing up drapes is another option. Retractable fabric awning is too expensive for us.

Is it possible to use a large cast iron bowl or similar and create a fire pit that you can have out on the deck/patio during winter but can remove in winter? Any other ideas for making it versatile? What are the fire hazard requirements ?
