Help.. My house looks like a one eyed monster!

I need ideas please on how to offset the void beside window (poor design from the original designer many years ago). Its a recent purchase for us that we have renovated inside and out with a white/monochrome theme. The house is all white. Another window cannot be placed here as inside wall is bathroom shower. Need external solution only. Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Hang up that basketball hoop and grow a vine. You don't need to balance everything symmetrically.

Find someone who can custom make your street address in large black numbers/letters in an outdoor material. and put it in the space like a piece of outdoor art!

You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example).

I would reupholster the rosewood furniture in natural canvas or a natural linen look . Ask the upholsterer to do the job with NO welting. That will make it look more contemporary. Then stop by West Elm, Pottery Barn, or Crate & Barrel for some brightly colored pillows. I'm thinking coral might work well with your tile, but you be the judge of what color works best with it. For now we'll assume it's coral. So I'd like to see one wall painted coral if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I'd leave the walls white. Next, let's cover some of that tile you don't like. Two choice: 1. A rug you'll take with you. Perhaps a shaggy offwhite one. 2. A rug you'll leave in your rental. This could be a large piece of carpeting, cut and bound like a rug. Measure for size before going to the carpet store. Most carpeting is 12' wide, so figure on making a rug 12 x something so that there is no waste, or you could make a couple of 6 x somethings. If you could change out the rosewood coffee table for another, I think you'd be happier with the furniture. It needs some variety. Even a couple of small tables from IKEA could work for 6 to 8 months.

Hi. It's looking really good and you've done well with the bookshelves! ! I love the new sofa! I would say just a tad more yellow if your husband can bear it, doesn't have to be solid yellow. I'd add something else on the left shelves (I'd move one shelf of photos to the right hand shelving and swap for some books), maybe a ginger jar if you can get an old one. Maybe a patterned throw or cushion for your wooden chair and a small yellow throw for the bench just draped over the corner. Table idea sounds great. Are you happy with it? I think it's made such a big difference

I'm not sure of your budget, but what about an external timber or laser cut privacy screen which stretches across the entire width of the wall.

Something like these:

So, you'd basically be pretending that the window (or windows) stretched across the entire expanse and place a privacy screen across that expanse.

Or you could paint an eye patch on the wall and have a pirate house! Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!

The vine may not gel with the contemporary style - but I LOVE the idea of the external timber or screen. Could even have it so it opens over the window, like the first link:

Add shutters to the real window. And then put a matching fake window with aged mirror and shutters.

Or live with the imperfection, it doesn't need to be perfect to be happy.

External fixed louvres over the top of the window then another on the other side attached to the wall to balance it.

A nice vertical screen with thin battens in timebr or aluminium running from above the window to the floor level would be perfect and possibly another element running horizontal from about 300mm above the bottom of the vertical screen element across the house say 150mm high itself would give added proportional benefit this element could be as wide as the garage door and be the same colour as the garage door and would be best to sit behind the screen. Good balance and proportion is a big part of quality design.

Thin wooden battens painted in a colour to match the windows from the right hand side of the window from the roof to above the garagedoor with a Gap between each one would offset the window and add another dimension to the entire look of the front wall

How about employing 'an artist' to PAINT another window in the space (but not the same size) maybe a long window like the other ones on the side of the building. What about french doors with a balcony?

Perhaps change the window to a door and add a little balcony almost the full width - then you can put pot plants or outdoor furniture in the blank space

Love your one eyed monster, or maybe enlarge the window to wrap the corner. He will stop looking so moster like, but still A symmetrical.

Ha, some of these pics are so funny! deena it's only the light looking like a nose that makes our brains interpret your house as a face. Delete the light fitting. Adding the address will kill the symmetry that makes the face jump out.
Or maybe some faux windows....
