Integrating balcony with the living room
Comments (6)I will include the picture once I collect the keys to the apartment. The apartment is 1400 sq ft. and it is located on the 16 th floor. The living room and the balcony floor is at the same level. The French doors, which I intend to remove, separate and protect the living room from the open balcony. But the current owner had installed aluminum casement windows at the balcony. These windows I think will provide sufficient protection from the elements, hence the idea of doing away with the French doors. The authority would not allow us to remove the three feet high concrete wall of the balcony. The idea of the platform (a) to differentiate the living room/balcony boundary, (b) to raise the floor height so one can drink tea at the balcony and admire the view too....See MoreKitchen base

Comments (6)Marble are non-porous thus it would cause etching and corrosion. Besides that, marble are high maintenance materials. Marble requires proper care and maintenance. Acid should never be used on marble as it shall loose its shine. Marble should be regularly polished over a period of time to give it a new look. If proper precautions are not taken the marble becomes yellowish in colour. Italian marble is usually very soft and prone to cracks. Proper resins have to be used to make the surface strong and solid and avoid further cracks. Proper sealants should be used in marble flooring as the marble is highly porous and prone to staining. It absorbs stains very quickly especially kitchen stains hence are not appropriate for kitchen counter tops. Quartz would be a better choice as quartz are non porous. You can read more about the benefits of quartz here. If you like the marble look you may view the marble series from different brands from our quartz catalogue. Comments (3)Hi mramsey and Alain Thanks for your advice and comments. I found a reflective paint from the US that apparently is meant to resolve the heat issue yet still allowing light to flow through. Doing up drapes is another option. Retractable fabric awning is too expensive for us....See MoreEllsworth Design Build
