Front door paint color
We are almost at the finish line with our latest renovation project and once again need the Houzz community to chime in and help us figure out the paint color for the front door. As you could see from the picture, the easiest bet would be to paint the door black to match other elements of the house, but that might make it boring. What other colors do you think will look good? The mailbox, house numbers, and the light fixture are all black.

Comments (6)I think if you select a wall color that is too well coordinated to the tile, it will only bring out the vibrant pattern in the tile. So pick colors you like. Let your personal style and the vibe of the rooms dictate the colors. Your walls, furnishings and accessories will take center stage so you won't really notice the tile. Comments (5)I agree with Carolyn - a new coat of paint can make a world of difference. There's really not too much about the house that 'screams' a certain decade - so you're luckier than lots of us. I hate that teracotta colour on the gable ends personally, and I think that would be good to paint out. I would consider painting al the bits that are currently white a darker more serious colour (grey, taupe etc) and then paint the trim and the entry ceiling white. Also consider painting the roof - as it is a big element and teracotta tile colour doesn't always work with your colour scheme. Comments (12)I would seriously consider replacing the cabinets before putting a new granite countertop on them. The problem is that no one will remove the countertop at a later date if you want to change the cabinets, due to the possibility of breakage. The only choice you will have then is a reface. Adding new doors, drawer fronts, and veneered sides is just a facelift. You could also add new hardwood drawers with undermount cushion close slides, but by the time you do this if will be the same cost as new cabinets now. The cabinets you have now, frameless, particle board sides are notorious for having the hinge screws strip out the particle board they are attached to. Since you can't put a longer screw in them, because the material is only 3/4" of an inch thick you have a problem. Comments (19)I very much agree with what Beverly said regarding adding shutters to your home. You don't have the space on either side of the windows to accommodate appropriately sized shutters. Awnings would definitely be an option. Since you're in the Caribbean, you can add color by using a brightly striped awning. One shutter option that you could consider would be a Bahama Shutter. Since they mount at the top of the windows, you wouldn't have any problem adding them if you like....See More

If you paint the door black, it's going to look like a black hole. It would be a lot more fun and charming to use the door as an opportunity to add a pop of color. I personally think crimson or a rich orange would be perfect. I've attached a few visual references for you.

7 years agoI definitely agree - a brighter, bold color would definitely bring attention to the building. A bright green goes well with black and grey (a similar color to the green in the Houzz logo even!). Also, keep in mind that colors evoke emotion... so a bright blue, green, yellow or orange would all be great colors for the front door.
