Comments (3)I have stained concrete floors and not only do I love them... but 95% of everyone that walks in the door goes goo goo over them... Well, there was that one guest that waited a half hour before asking "So, when you do you think you'll be able to afford carpet?" .... So, this isn't a great pic, but you can see that we mixed black in and that there's a greenish border... Looking back, I would have done a different color had I given it more thought because it's a lot of work to change stained concrete... but painted concrete can be painted over and over... By the way...The lower level of my house is 1500 sq ft and I vacuum those concrete floors, all of them, in less than 15 minutes... I was 2 x's a year and including stripping the old wax, it only takes me about three hours! Comments (8)I remove the water tank and wash it in warm soapy water every few days. Takes about five minutes. I also run a descaling potion through it every so often which takes about 10 minutes. I also run a little steam through the steam wand after use. That's it. Comments (1)My humble advice would be to spend a little thought and design and obviously budget into the bathroom (dont forget to make certain that the flooring in the bathroom is water proofed professionally) and kitchen design. This is usually where most of the budget goes. Next would be to rewire the home. Electrical work is also rather expensive these days so make sure you hire a reputable contractor. Rest of decor you could decide later and see how far your budget goes. Renovating is never an easy process, so be patient and decide on what you want first and then communicate this to your designer. 7 years agoLook at photos that have this floor and also at the furniture and style..you would get a better idea as well.
Walnut is beautiful, but then again,,you are talking to someone who loves anything walnut:) I had the basement cabinets for the bar area done in walnut.I had my husband do a bench in the hallway out of walnut as well:)
Are you going for a modern look or something more traditional?
There is also quartered sawn or rift white oak that is beautiful. Here is an example

7 years agohas anyone mentioned the fading issues to you?? if it gets direct sunlight, that area will fade. if you put a rug over the wood in the room, and then remove the rug 6 months later, you will see a perfect dark spot where the wood has been protected from the light.
Look at Acacia for a similar wood look without the fading or humidity issues.

7 years agoWe put tiger wood in our dining room in a previous home. The dining room overlooked a front porch and large old oak tree so was a shady area and room but had a beautiful view. Loved the floor and room and was a wow factor. Pics look a bit dark as they were taken at night but you get the idea how the colors all came together and worked.

7 years agofloors down. they are so nice. I think the problems other ppl had with the tigerwood were really problems with a bad installer. I told the installer I didn't want the floor to look wayyy busy. he said ok and they literally used 5 boxes at a time to pick the floor board. as someone who had OCD it was extremely comforting to see the select the right board for every single section, both by size and by pattern.
I had some other people come in right after to finish up some sheetrock (guys in the photo) and my floor installer (they were finishing up) got so mad at them because they put their tools directly on the floor lol. I was glad to see them take such pride in their work!
